Turbocharging Brochure Design

Blog by Optima

Optima were recently appointed to develop a new, dynamic brochure style for Napier Turbochargers to showcase their market leading, next generation product, the 8 Series Turbo.

The client wanted a way to show the inner workings of their new turbocharger in a printed format but wanted it to be realistic and highly technical in order to appeal to engineers. The challenge was to achieve this and still create a clean, uncluttered design feel.

Optima had to work within existing brand guidelines and highlight the company’s rich heritage and global reach but create a clean, modern, technically-acurate and informative brochure style.

The answer was to use their original CAD drawings as the basis to generate photo realistic 3D renders. By using a software package called Cinema 4D, a 360 degree model of the turbo was created which was manipulated with sections cut-aways to show intricate mechanical detail, whilst not revealing any of the turbo’s commercially sensitive design features. The brochures were required for a shipbuilding exhibition in Hamburg and the lead time from brief, including printing, was just over three weeks which was a challenging timescale considering the intricate nature of the design. Following the success of the 8 Series brochure we have since applied the same design approach to an Aftermarket Services and 7 Series brochure to provide Napier with a new suite of sales materials.
